Control your local airport in massive FRA shakeup!
January 16, 2022, 12:08 pm

Today we're announcing the biggest shakeup of Facility Rating Assignments - the things that either let you control somewhere or restrict you from doing so - in the history of IVAO United Kingdom & Ireland.

The division is moving to re-incentivise training and examination. With more training staff putting up more availability training sessions will become structured and regular. We expect that members will be able to go from an AS3 rating to passing their ADC exam in an average of six weeks.

From Thursday 27 January 2022 division members will be able to control practically EVERY airfield, aerodrome and airport - from the smallest of GA airfields up to the biggest international airports like London Heathrow or Dublin.

However, this does mean we'll be making some changes to the airports people are currently able to control.

The following airfields will see increased restrictions:

  • EGAA: TWR to ADC, APP to APC
  • EGPF: GND, TWR to ADC, APP to APC
  • EGCC: GND, TWR to ADC, APP to APC
  • EGKK: DEL, GND, TWR to ADC, APP to APC
  • EGLL: DEL, GND, TWR to ADC, APP to APC
  • EGSS: GND, TWR to ADC, APP to APC
  • EIDW: DEL, GND, TWR to ADC, APP to APC

However exceptions will be made after this date for those wishing to complete their training at EGPF, EGCC, EGSS or EIDW.

We're also launching a short-term waiting list for current AS2, AS3 and ADC members, including those currently in training. Any member who joins the waiting list by filling out the form will be able to continue to control at the above aerodromes without the above ratings rating until 14 July 2022.

As more airfields become available to control, so too will more documentation. You'll find that in the IVAO XU Wiki at https://wiki2.xu.ivao.aero/

So, welcome to 2022 and the year of "control from home, your home aerodrome!"

Community Sectorfile Launch
January 16, 2022, 11:35 am

You asked for it and it's finally here! Many of you will have noticed the changes to the sectorfile in the last couple of weeks and now we're able to explain why.

A group of extremely talented members have spent several weeks rebuilding the EGTT/EGPX sectorfile from the ground up (literally!) and now they've started on the EISN sectorfile too.

There's too many new features to list but here's a few for you: taxiway and holding point labels, SIDs and STARs, VRPs and RMAs per airport, faster loading coastline, better performance and less chance of Aurora crashes.

So what makes this a COMMUNITY sectorfile? Well, it's on Github and it's there for you to help develop!

You can read more about configuring the sectorfiles at https://wiki2.xu.ivao.aero/en/atc/sectorfile

Want to help out? Head over to Github and make your first pull request! https://github.com/IVAO-XU/

First divisional groupflight causes chaos in Spain!
August 28, 2021, 12:29 pm

More than 30 pilots from the United Kingdom and Ireland MCD, as well as from Spain and Germany, descended on the Spanish island of Mallorca in our first divisional groupflight.

Taking advantage of the Spanish division's "Online Day", held every Friday, pilots flew from airports of their choosing across London, including Stansted, Gatwick and Luton, with around 20 of the aircraft then arriving in to the Palma approach sector within 15 minutes of each other, and the remaining pilots following not far behind!

Created to build the community spirit of division members we spent the evening in Discord chatting, joking and getting to know each other.

Anyone who took part, either as an air traffic controller or as a pilot, can sibmit a PIREP for a point towards their ATC or Pilot Events Awards respectively at https://xu.ivao.aero/community/awards.

IVAO XU would like to thank the controllers on Paris and Brest Control in France, as well as Barcelona Radar, Palma Approach sectors LL1, LL2 and FINAL, Tower and Ground. Thank you for your fantastic service providing us full air traffic control throughout our flight, adding immersion and realism and showing just what IVAO is here for. A community, worldwide.

Our next event is at Bristol on 16 September, we're hoping it's just as busy!
